Match Report
Giovanni Cirrotto hammered 76 to guide Celtic to an easy victory over a struggling Cimla Side. Emerging youngster, Matthew Davies, son of evergreen opener Mark, and star all-rounder Roger Barnes had earlier ripped through Cimlas fragile batting to help set up a convincing win.
Skipper Harris had no hesitation in putting Cimla in on damp pitch after heavy rain over the previous few days. The decision proved excellent as wickets fell constantly. Apart from stubborn opener Hughes, who scored more than half of the away teams runs, none of the Cimla batsman recorded double figures.
Hughes, who punished anything lose, was finally cleaned up by Davies for 73, Davies churning out 6 overs for just 11 runs and picking up 3 valuable wickets in the process.
In response, Nick Poole was out for a duck in the 4th over, much to the amusement of the army of Celtic fans. Despite the early wobble, Hopkins and Cirrotto dug deep to avert any further scare taking the score to 68. Hopkins, was particularly watchful in his sluggish 23 off 63 balls before he was trapped plumb in front by seamer Pugh.
The departure of Hopkins though seemed to spark Cirotto into life as he tore into the visitors attack, smashing 11 boundaries in his impressive knock. However with just 10 needed, the tired Italian stallion nicked a straight forward catch to keeper Rees. By then the damage had been done and it was left to the experienced Ian Herbert and Roger Barnes to take Celtic home by 7 wickets.
